The people behind it
Our story
Evolit was founded on January 3, 2011 in Vienna by Paul Kleinrath. The name was chosen by the first four employees in a creativity competition from a long list of partly nerdy, partly absurd suggestions. The winner was the combination of Evolution and IT. Fun fact: read in reverse, Evolit spells LoveIT, and that is exactly what drives us to this day.
In the early years, the team quickly established itself as a specialist for complex custom software, particularly in the rail and transport sector. Projects like the digitalization of operations management systems for OeBB or the development of safety-critical software for infrastructure operators shaped the company’s profile.
Today we employ over 150 experts from many nations across three locations in Vienna, Zurich, and Poprad (Slovakia). Our client portfolio ranges from energy providers such as EVN, Verbund, and Wien Energie to transport companies like OeBB and ASFINAG, as well as technology companies and the public sector. Since October 2024, we have been represented in Zurich through Evolit Schweiz AG, supporting our Swiss clients locally while leveraging development capacity in Austria and Slovakia.
In 2024 we were certified as a Leitbetrieb Austria (Leading Company Austria) for the first time. Our ISO 9001 certified development processes and a 30% share of women in our workforce reflect our commitment to quality and diversity.
Evolit is part of the Evo IT Holding, which unites four specialized brands under its umbrella:
- Evolit develops, operates, and optimizes custom software across the entire lifecycle, from consulting to continuous optimization.
- smartTOS is a cloud-based Terminal Operating System for intermodal rail terminals with AI-powered dispatching and crowd-based wagon and container data.
- evol.X connects CRM, marketing automation, and commerce on platforms like Salesforce, Microsoft, and Storyblok into seamless digital customer experiences.
- evo.people provides IT professionals as freelancers, through direct recruitment, or temporary staffing.
